Michele Pierson is a Melbourne based film scholar. 

She taught in the Film Studies Department at King’s College London 
from 2006 to 2025. Since publishing a book on special effects, 
her research has focused on experimental film. She is co-editor of 
Optic Antics: The Cinema of Ken Jacobs (OUP 2011) and author of 
The Accessibility of the Avant Garde: Views from Experimental Cinema 
(forthcoming from OUP 2027). 

Michele has hosted conversations with artists and writers 
and introduced experimental films at arts venues such as 
the Barbican, BFI, Eye Filmmuseum, e flux, ICA London, 
Pompidou Centre, and Whitechapel Gallery.
